Well, I finally did it. I’ve become ‘one of those people’ that pays a yearly subscription for a sports package. Didn’t even think about the month to month options, fuck it, whole year in a single payment. I am committed to this. This is my first time doing this. NOW I totally understand the need for special privileges if you’re truly a fan and want premium access and features 24/7.
My subscription amount has been decreasing year after year. I’m basically watching the same ‘old’ shows, and nothing new really interests me enough (between us, they’re just churning shitty content en masse to maintain a high level of consumption for varied audiences). If I want to see something, I’ll pay for a month and binge it or simply ask a friend for their account access.
Haven’t paid for Netflix in years, it’s just not for worth it. So much content, and almost none of it’s actually great. Hulu is great for ‘old tv’ series and cartoons. Me and a friend go splitsies there. Not even gonna get into Disney Plus. I’m not 12 years old.
Only two subscriptions have been with me for a couple of years now:
HBO and Criterion Collection. Premium TV and the best films in history. Not only do they have an incredibly huge library, but it’s literally the best of the best. I won’t ever get tired of repeating them, ever.
You know why? Because true art endures, and stands the test of time.
